Over the past ten years, I have made 3 separate attempts to transition to natural hair. Of course, the first two attempts were unsuccessful due to the lack of support and resources from friends and family alike. Even I can attest that any task can be made difficult or discouraging without a few cheerleaders by your side.
My third and final wakeup call occurred over a series of events. However, the catalyst of my own movement came when my children began to develop distaste for their own hair because it wasn't long, straight and curly at the ends like some of their idols. They wanted to know how come they couldn't wear their hair like mine (relaxed, shoulder length and curled only at the ends).
After trying to explain the genetic inheritance of their thick, bushy hair, I realized that I needed to step up and become their cheerleader and role model before they developed a permanent complex to a very beautiful characteristic.
Enjoy.
